For Pride Month this June, the Trump-Pence campaign has released an LGBTQ t-shirt design on its store. Given the controversial laws imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration on the community, many perceive this gesture as insincere.
The t-shirt, available on the official Donald Trump store at US$30, is printed with a painted rainbow flag and reads, “LGBTQ for Trump.”

The back of the t-shirt is printed with the Trump-Pence logo, along with the “Make America Great Again” slogan.
The store’s description details that the tee encourages members of the LGBTQ+ community to “show your pride and your support for Trump with this exclusive equality tee.” It is also described to be “proudly made in USA,” and runs from size small through 3XL.
Social media users have called the t-shirt’s release “hypocritical,” noting how Trump pulled similar moves when campaigning for his presidency in 2016. In July that year, he promised that he would “do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens,” and in October, unraveled a rainbow flag to supposedly express his support for the community.
However, since taking office, Trump’s administration took down information about LGBT rights from the White House’s official site, banned transgender citizens from serving in the military, and took away some protections for transgender children, according to Newsweek.
The rollout of the apparel was also timed awkwardly, Queerty points out, as the Trump administration recently announced a ban on transgender people from homeless shelters, in addition to denying immigration status to same-sex couples.
